A combined TV/telephone patient bedside entertainment system, with benefits
for both patient and hospital.
The Tele-Call system comprises a 15" touch screen monitor mounted
to the wall on a swivel arm above each hospital bed with an integrated
telephone handset/remote control. The wall box houses an industrial quality
PC incorporating a modern Intel Celeron 4 processor running on windows
XP. An infra-red keyboard is available for use with the system. The system
is driven from a centrally located head-end comprising a single 19" rack,
which can be securely connected to the hospital cuthentication server.
The combined TV and telephone unit enables patients to watch their choice
of TV, and keep in touch with friends and relatives with phonecalls or
email. Being in touch with the world outside means a stay in hospital
need not be lonely or boring.
The provision of bedside TV and telephone enhances the efficiency of
nursing duties. No more distractions by taking telephone calls from patients
friends or relatives they can talk directly to the patient. No longer
does the nurse or auxiliary have to wheel the trolley phone around wards
the patient has permanent and instant access to their own personal telephone.
The hospital also benefits from a wide range of additional services that

The Tele-Call console can be easily pushed back flush against the wall
when not in use and as such does not infringe upon the space around the
bed, or interfere with the clinical staff in their daily duties.
It is well documented that happy and contented patients make for a speedier
recovery and thus free up valuable bed space for the next patient.
Payment is through an extremely secure cardless system, using PIN numbers.
Cash machines in each ward area accept cash or cards, and outstanding
credit is refunded. Credit can also be added over the telephone, or by
friends/ relatives over a secure, dedicated website.
