Unlike other patient entertainment and communication systems, Tele-Call is fully PC-based, offering hospital staff the benefits of computing at the point of care. Doctors and nurses can securely log on to hospital systems at each bedside. The system can be configured so that staff can log in using a username and password, smartcard, biometric data or an RFID tag, allowing them to access relevant information or re-enter a previous session. |

Full PC functionality at the bedside
The Tele-Call system comprises a medical grade, 17” touch screen computer with an integrated telephone handset and smartcard reader. The units are mounted on the wall behind each bed, with a swivel arm allowing patients and staff to position it where they like.

The system operates with Windows XP and incorporates a powerful 1GHz Celeron M processor. Optional extras include:
- keyboard (infra-red, blue tooth or USB)
- personal headphones
- webcam
- barcode scanner
- biometric or RFID reader
- magswipe card reader

Hospitals can offer patients terrestrial, satellite or cable TV through the units, either free-to-view or encrypted. Connected to the internet via broadband the system offers full email and messenger facilities along with voice-over-IP telephony.
All the Tele-Call units are driven from a centrally located head-end, comprising IPTV converters, video and audio-on-demand servers and application servers, which can easily be accommodated in a single 19" rack. This can be securely connected to the hospital’s authentication servers, giving staff access to medical records and administration systems, with login via user name and password, smartcard, biometrics or RFID.
